Sport Leadership Grants for Women

The 2008/09 Sports Leadership Grants for Women program is now open! The Sport Leadership Grants for Women program is an initiative of the Australian Government that is jointly managed by the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Government Office for Women.

These grants are designed to encourage Women to undertake training and develop leadership skills in Sport. The grants can benefit women who are involved with administration and governance of Rugby Clubs, as well as on-field with coaching and officiating. The grants are available in five areas –

  • high-performance coaching and officiating;
  • Indigenous women;
  • women in disability sport;
  • women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds;
  • women in general sport leadership.

Funding of up to $5,000 is available to successful individual applicants to be used for courses and training . While it is expected that the individual would contribute to some of the costs, it is a great opportunity to increase skills and knowledge without the whole financial burden. Examples of training that could be covered by these grants include; Officiating Qualification Accreditation Courses, Coaching Qualification Accreditation Courses, Financial Management Courses,  Website Development Courses, Strategic Planning Courses, and more. When applying for a grant, It is important to consider that the course/training will have to have impact on the individual, their organisation/club, and the sport.

In addition, up to $10,000 can be granted for approved organisations, which may be a consideration for larger projects.

Applications close on Thursday, 15 May 2008. For more details about the 2008/09 Sports Leadership Grants for Women go to: http://www.ausport.gov.au/participating/all/women/get_involved
