A little about the Club
After 24 years without a premiership Qbn won the ACT first grade (pictured) and Colts premierships in 2007. In 2008 the club has won the Vodafone pres-season competition and conducted the inaugural Campese Sevens with 20 teams participating. Under Brett’s leadership sponsorship has grown by 30% and financial registration of players has jumped from 30% to 95%. The culture of the club has changed significantly from a club seeking a premiership to a premiership club.
What does the Volunteer do for the Club
As above, his leadership and commitment to the club has been beyond what should be expected. The club’s achievements, reputation and support of the ACTRU has drawn praise from ACT officials. This is very much a reflection of the drive of Brett Kirchner. He has mended fences and moved the club into a very strong long-term position. Brett has obtained a commitment from the Federal Government for funding for extra amenities at the club’s home ground including more change rooms, referee’s room, first aid area and entertainment area. This is expected to cost about $1m. An outstanding achievement.
Why this person is a Role Model
Brett’s mature business approach to the leadership of the club has been welcomed by the community. Not only has Brett promoted rugby he has promoted the club as part of the community. He talks of the club’s community obligation and has the players involved in fund raising for the Salvation Army and the ACT-Eden Monaro Cancer Council. His own unflappable style, work ethic and commitment has set a high standard for all involved in the club.
The Volunteers impact on the Club
Brett has managed to, in a short-time frame, turn the club on its head and reinvigorate the committee, players and supporters. This was no mean feat. The club committee has attracted new members with expertise in specific areas e.g. marketing and the player strength continues to grow with the club now a club of choice by local and even interstate players. There is a sense of unity, confidence and optimism at the Whites.
Brett was nominated by a life member of the Queanbeyan club, and will be sent a Qantas Wallabies Signed Jersey from ARU Community Rugby to thank him for his involvement and dedication as a Volunteer.
