Accreditation For Officials
The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has well developed national training programs for all disciplines of officiating. These training programs cover the roles of referee, referee coach and touch judge. The training programs range from Foundation (Referees) or Level 1(Referee Coach and Touch Judge) for the beginner, to Advanced (Level 3) for those aspiring to officiate at the highest level. The courses are approved by the Australian Sports Commission under the National Officiating Program.

Each of the training programs has an associated competency-based assessment process which, once completed, will enable an individual toobtain anacreditation in that discipline.
The requirements for obtaining the accreditation for each discipline and level are available in the ARU Officials Accreditation Policy. Click here to view a copy of this policy.
Arrangements to undertake the competency assessment should be made with your State Referee Manager or Referee Development Officer. Click here for State Union contact information.
Accreditation Update Policy
An accreditation in an officiating discipline remains current for a period of four years, provided the individual continues to be actively involved. To be re-accredited at the end of the four years, individuals are required to be re-assessed and complete other activities as detailed in the ARU Accreditation Update Policy. Special arrangements apply to officials who do not maintain continuous involvement.
