Australian Rugby icon David Campese has been invited to hand out the Test jerseys to the Wallabies on Thursday night ahead of Saturday’s Test against the Springboks in Johannesburg.

The 101-Test great and Wallaby Hall of Famer, who currently lives in Durban, still holds the world record for Test tries (64) and is only one of three Wallabies to play 100 Tests.

“Campo”, will continue an important tradition of former Wallaby greats who present the playing jerseys to the squad before every Test around the world.

Campese said the invitation to be part of the build up to this week’s Test, where the Wallabies are aiming to record back-to-back victories over the Springboks for the first time in 45 years, was an honour and it was great to be involved with a team on an upward trend.

"It was quite surprising to get the call but obviously I didn't hesitate to accept," he said.

"You can sense there's a real change in the atmosphere of the Wallabies this year, a more relaxed feeling and you can see that in the way they play.

"The burdens have lifted off the players and they are enjoying their rugby. There's no baggage.

"It's been pleasing to see the Wallabies being so successful this year under Robbie Deans and his direction to run the footy and to let guys back themselves. I've always thought these guys were the dark horses for the Tri-Nations and their win at the weekend confirmed that."
