Sydney and Queensland both recorded big victories on Day One

Defending champions Sydney have started their 2008 National Women’s Championship campaign in style with a 10-try rout of National Indigenous in Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

 

Four tries to Faryaneh Hayati highlighted an impressive first-up performance by Sydney who will now play Victoria, after they defeated the Brumbies 22-5, in the semi finals tomorrow.

 

Host Union Queensland also recorded a big victory with a 79-0 walloping of Australian Services, with Cheyenne Campbell, Aimee Gilbert, Lavinia Gould and Donna Kelemete all recording braces.

 

Earlier in the day NSW Country edged out WA 22-5, with Australian Wallaroos regulars Tobie McGann and Alana Thomas scoring tries.

Victoria 22 (Silei Poluleuligaga 2, Cecilia Teoteo, Tegan French tries; Joanne Linklater con) defeated Brumbies 5 (Sharni Williams try)
