Queensland Red win the National Under 16 Championship

Queensland have captured the Rod Macqueen Shield for the first time with Queensland Red defeating Queensland White 29-10 in the final game of a highly successful National Under 16 Rugby Union Championships which was completed today in Nudgee.
The star for Queensland Red was local Nudgee flyhalf Cayden Matehaere who scored a try and landed three conversions and a penalty in a polished performance. Fullback James May was also amongst the Red trycorers.
In other matches the National Indigenous team showed the promising state of junior indigenous Rugby in Australia by defeating South Australia29-20 in Division 2 to claim the John Eales Shield. National Indigenous remained undefeated throughout the week long tournament.
The other shield winner was NSW Country who overcame the Brumbies 11-7 in a hard fought one-try apiece encounter, to clinch the Nick Farr-Jones Shield.
In other matches Sydney Juniors came out on top in a an all-NSW encounter defeating NSW Schools 22-7 and Western Australia edged out Victoria 13 -12 to finish on a winning note.
In the final high scoring affair Northern Territory were too good for Tasmania, scoring six tries on the way to a 40-3 victory.
In a presentation ceremony at the end of the tournament open-side flanker and Queensland Red captain Liam Gill was announced as FordPlayer of the Tournament.
