The Qantas Wallabies are parading new hair designs in Europe – only these ones sit on their top lips.
In support of the Movember fund-raising drive for charity, a number of the Australian squad have taken to growing moustaches . . . with varying degrees of success.
Veteran second rower Nathan Sharpe has scoffed at the efforts of several backline “glamour boys”, and winger Drew Mitchell admits he is not the king of the “hair bear bunch”
See the Nathan Sharpe video on www.rugby.com.au for the latest on Movember from the Qantas Wallabies camp in Paris.
The Movember Foundation is a registered charity that increases awareness around men's health issues and raises funds for carefully selected beneficiary partners – including one of Australian Rugby Union’s official charities, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
The PCFA aims to reduce the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their partners, their families and the community. The money raised by Movember is used by the PCFA to:
Fund research into the causes, detection, diagnosis and improved treatment of prostate cancer.
Provide information, support and counseling to those affected by prostate cancer.
Raise community awareness of the incidence of prostate cancer, thereby encouraging earlier detection and more effective treatment of the disease.
Andrew Giles, CEO of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, has applauded the Qantas Wallabies for entering into the spirit of the Movember campaign, with funds to flow to the PCFA and beyondblue, whose aim is to increase the community’s awareness of depression and address the associated stigma of living with depression..
“It is so very encouraging to see Australia’s finest rugby players as role models for these most important men’s health issues and we are so very appreciative of their support,” said Mr Giles.
Since its inception as a formal charity in 2004, Movember has raised over $30 million globally.
